The forum “Platform for Cooperation between the Police and the Roma Community” took place in Uzhhorod
It was held on October 8 and was dedicated to shared responsibility for safe communities.
This important event brought together representatives of the National Police of Ukraine, government authorities, Zakarpattia Regional State Administration, the Office of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights (Andrii Kryuchkov), the State Service of Ukraine for Ethnic Policy and Freedom of Conscience, local NGOs, as well as Roma community leaders from Zakarpattia, Odesa, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
Our team also joined the forum — we were among its co-organizers. Throughout the day, participants raised key issues related to cooperation between various institutions and Roma communities, analyzed pressing challenges, and jointly explored possible solutions.

The main outcome of the forum was the Resolution, which formalizes the commitment of all parties to systematic cooperation. The document includes practical recommendations for public authorities, police, civil society organizations, and educational institutions.
Among the key areas:
- development of the Cooperation Platform in the future;
- implementation of non-discrimination principles across all spheres of life;
- promotion of Community Policing practices (where the police work hand in hand with the community);
- increasing the level of cultural sensitivity among police officers;
- involvement of Roma youth and women in decision-making processes;
- support for educational projects and research that foster Roma integration and strengthen social cohesion.

The founder and president of Voice of Romni, Anzhelika Bielova, emphasized that such platforms are not just meetings, but spaces for meaningful dialogue and real change. However, these changes are possible only through consistent engagement of all participants. Therefore, Anzhelika Bielova announced the next steps:
“In November–December this year, we will hold regional dialogues on the implementation of the Roma Strategy at the local level in seven regions of Ukraine. We would be very glad if the National Police also joined them. After all, the National Plan (and accordingly, the regional ones) includes actions that are the direct responsibility of the National Police. We have many shared achievements, but there are also challenges we must address together. Because we are all part of one community, part of a democratic country moving toward European values. Tolerance, human rights, and non-discrimination are the values we already uphold — and must continue to stand by.”

Participants of the forum confirmed their readiness to continue working together. The Resolution opens the way for new partnerships, joint initiatives, and real changes in communities — to promote unity and strengthen equality for all.
