Ukrainian women’s organizations, including the delegation of Voice of Romni (Roma activists and representatives of Roma NGOs), actively participate in global discussions and advocate for women’s rights on the international stage.

This time, in the heart of New York, within the walls of the UN, where decisions are made that impact the lives of millions of people, we are participating in events within the framework of the 69th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women.

One of the key priorities for us at the Commission is Ukraine’s post-war recovery. That is why throughout all events, Ukrainian women’s organizations are working with a strong focus on this issue. It is crucial for us that women have an active role in the country’s reconstruction process. Their experience and expertise must be taken into account at all stages, as this will ensure a more just and inclusive recovery for all citizens, regardless of their background or social status.

During the visit to the United States, Roma delegation was led by the president of Voice of Romni, Anzhelika Bielova, who firmly believes that women, especially those from vulnerable groups, must be included in decision-making processes related to humanitarian response and recovery strategies. It is essential to uphold gender equality and justice to ensure equal opportunities for everyone.

Ukraine must go through this recovery process while considering the needs of all its communities. That is why we must ensure that women’s voices are heard at every stage. Women’s organizations, which play a key role in providing humanitarian aid to vulnerable groups, need stable and long-term funding.

We thank our partners for the opportunity to be part of the global discourse: the Office for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine, the Government Commissioner for Gender Policy Kateryna Levchenko, the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the UN, the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security, the Ukrainian Women’s Fund, CARE.Ukraine, Oxfam, Mercy Corps and all those who support these important initiatives.
