A sense of having a safe space is something many people are deeply missing today.

At a time when cities and villages across Ukraine are suffering from massive attacks, and when for some people a new morning may never come, it is especially important for us to stand beside those in vulnerable situations: to support them and help them cope with what may feel unbearable.

This is why the Voice of Romni team, with the support of IRC, has opened two new safe spaces in Kharkiv and Konotop. They are equipped with everything needed for comfortable and uninterrupted work: furniture, equipment, charging stations, stable internet access, and stationery.

We have also upgraded two existing spaces operating in Zaporizhzhia and Kryvyi Rih to improve conditions for people who regularly come to us for support.

Support in these spaces is provided by psychologists, lawyers, case managers, teachers, and administrators who have received specialized training to work with children, internally displaced persons, and other vulnerable groups. The spaces also regularly offer opportunities for free learning and provide other forms of assistance.

Every day, people with different stories come to these spaces. Some have experienced forced displacement and are trying to rebuild their lives from the ground up. Some are seeking legal assistance to resolve urgent issues. Others need psychological support after loss, stress, or prolonged life under constant danger.

The war deepens and intensifies the needs of vulnerable communities. That is why it is important for us that our support spaces can respond to these challenges: helping families recover, find new opportunities, and feel that they are not left alone with their difficulties.
