March 8 is a day that reminds us that women’s rights have never been guaranteed. They are the result of a long struggle, solidarity, and the collective efforts of many generations.

Throughout different historical periods, women step by step fought for the opportunity to study, work, be heard, and influence decisions that shape the future of society. These changes became possible thanks to perseverance, mutual support, and the determination to defend their rights.

For the Roma national minority (community), the issue of equality carries particular significance. Roma women often find themselves at the intersection of several forms of discrimination — based on gender, ethnic origin, and social barriers.

Every day, we work to ensure that Roma women have access to knowledge, resources, and opportunities for self-realization. We support the development of women’s leadership, economic empowerment, and civic engagement, because sustainable change begins where women participate in the processes that shape the lives of communities. An important direction of our work is preparing Roma women and girls as leaders and agents of change — those who strengthen communities, initiate new solutions, and share knowledge with others.

Today the world is facing a rollback of established gender equality standards. Decades of progress may be lost if attention to these issues declines. Therefore, it is essential to continue systematically supporting gender equality in all areas of life so that the achievements already made remain truly sustainable. At a time when Ukraine is living through war while also shaping the vision for its future recovery, it is crucial to ensure the participation of different groups of society in these processes. The involvement of women, including Roma women, in the recovery of Ukraine is not only a matter of equality but also a condition for sustainable development. Their experience and civic engagement strengthen social cohesion, contribute to rebuilding trust, and support the development of resilient communities.

The recovery of Ukraine is not only about infrastructure, but also about building a just and inclusive society where every person has the right to a voice and the opportunity to influence our shared future.

Happy International Women’s Day for Women’s Rights and International Peace! Together we continue building a space of equal opportunities, dignity, and solidarity.
