Today, Ukraine celebrates 34 years of Independence.

But can Independence truly be measured in years? Every day, hundreds of thousands of servicewomen and servicemen defend it with their blood and sweat, and some give their very lives so that we may continue to proudly call Ukraine a free and independent state. Independence is the tireless effort of an entire people fighting for the right to be free and to live with dignity.

In this struggle, the Roma community stands side by side with all Ukrainians. Our men and women serve on the frontlines, risking their lives to bring victory closer in the war against russia. Their stories of courage are part of Ukraine’s greater story. The desire for freedom knows no national, ethnic, cultural, or other boundaries. It unites everyone who has chosen to be part of Ukraine.

Today, Independence means our shared responsibility and the daily decision not to stand aside. We are grateful to all who fight on the frontlines and to those who support them from the rear; to those who help communities and to those who carry the truth of Ukraine to the world. We believe that only together can we protect and preserve our country.

Happy Independence Day!
