Independence means the freedom to shape our own path. It means being able to speak about what matters to our communities, to be heard, to take part in decisions, and to build a just future together.

The strength of Ukraine lies in its people! In those who gave their lives for the nation’s independence. In those who defend the country from the enemy today. In those who work every day, support others, and help Ukraine stand strong. We remember. We are grateful. We honor the courage of every one of them.

Ukraine’s strength lies in its diversity: in people of different backgrounds, cultures, languages, traditions, and life experiences.

This summer, once again, we felt that recovery begins with the individual. A few days ago, the final session of Voice of Romni’s family camp came to a close. Over the course of the summer, 270 people from different corners of Ukraine found a space to rest, receive support, and restore their strength. Every family carries its own story, its own pain and experiences connected to the war. Yet together, they were able to breathe, find relative safety, and feel a sense of support.

Because Ukraine’s recovery isn’t only about houses, roads, or infrastructure. Above all, it’s about people. About safety, dignity, support, and the chance to find the strength to move forward again.

That is why we believe recovery must involve every community. When cities and villages are rebuilt, the people who live there need to be heard. When decisions are made about the development of territories, those directly affected must have a voice.

Roma communities are an integral part of Ukraine. They defend the country, volunteer, support their communities, work, help others, and contribute every day to our shared future. Despite the pain, destruction, loss, and constant threats, Ukrainians are rebuilding the nation every day — together building trust between people, communities, and the state, and restoring a sense of unity and justice.

So may an independent Ukraine be a country where every community has a voice, every person can be heard, and diversity becomes a source of strength. May we all know freedom, unity, and a just peace, so that together we can shape a future worthy of us all.
