Combating Gender-Based Violence
Voice of Romni is actively addressing gender-based violence (GBV), a priority area of our work aimed at protecting the rights of Roma women and girls who frequently face discrimination, social isolation, and the silencing of violence within their communities.
We conducted extensive research on GBV and gender practices within the Roma community, titled “Identity, Gender Aspects, and Traditions.” Our findings reaffirmed the need for a systematic approach to preventing violence and supporting survivors. We are confident that the results of this research will contribute to the development of effective mechanisms for GBV prevention and response both within Roma communities and beyond.
Additionally, we are building a network of young Roma activists. Our organization empowers women to become leaders in their communities by offering opportunities for education and advocacy skill-building. In the future, these women will represent the rights of our community at local, national, and international levels.
In our “Place of Strength” spaces, hundreds of women have received legal and career counseling as well as psychological support. Through retraining and upskilling courses, women, including Roma women, have gained opportunities to achieve economic independence and break free from cycles of violence.
Our work ensures that Roma women and girls are supported, empowered, and protected as they work toward creating safer, more equitable communities.
