Anzhelika Bielova Receives Recognition from the Zakarpattia Regional Council
On the occasion of International Roma Day, a ceremonial event was held in the atrium of the Zakarpattia Regional Military Administration in Uzhhorod, where representatives of the region’s Roma community received awards and letters of appreciation for their active civic engagement, preservation of Roma culture, and contribution to the development of society.
Among those honoured was Anzhelika Bielova, President of the Association of Roma Women Voice of Romni, who received a letter of appreciation from the Zakarpattia Regional Council. This recognition acknowledged her many years of work in defending the rights of Roma women, combating gender-based violence, supporting Roma communities, and amplifying the voice of Roma women in society.

Other Roma leaders, activists, and representatives of Zakarpattia’s civil society sector also received awards. Through their daily work, they strengthen communities, preserve cultural heritage, and contribute to building a more just society.

A particularly moving and emotional part of the event was the performance of the Roma anthem “Djelem, Djelem,” as well as a traditional Roma dance performed by girls attending choreography classes at the Voice of Romni youth space in Uzhhorod.

At the end of the event, participants took part in a symbolic tradition by placing wreaths and flowers on the water as a sign of unity, remembrance, and the resilience of the Roma people.
