In a village in Uzhhorod district, there is a community space where Roma children can learn and grow.

“In the beginning, we had around 20 children. Now there are nearly 50,” says Vasyl Dyuri, speaking about the growing interest in attending lessons in the village of Chomonyn, Zakarpattia.

Vasyl is the head of the regional cultural and educational society Roma, and together with his team, he is implementing this project thanks to a grant provided by Voice of Romni with the support of the Center for Disaster Philanthropy.

In a village in Uzhhorod district, there is a community space where Roma children can learn and grow. They attend lessons in Ukrainian language, math, reading, and art, take part in physical activities, and explore Roma culture. All students are provided with the school supplies they need.

Ensuring access to quality education for children from Roma communities remains one of the key priorities of our organization. Every day, Voice of Romni works to create better opportunities and a brighter future for them.

“It’s extremely important for us to support Roma organizations working directly in their communities. Our goal through this project is to ensure that children gain access to education — and to create a space where they can learn, share ideas, connect with one another, and explore the many possibilities the world has to offer,” says Anzhelika Bielova, President of Voice of Romni.

During our visit to the educational center, we saw just how dedicated the teachers and volunteers truly are. They don’t just teach — they inspire. And the genuine curiosity and enthusiasm of the children is truly heartwarming.

“I feel joy when I see the excitement in their eyes — when they didn’t know how to write something, and suddenly, they succeed. That’s what motivates me,” says teacher Hanna Ferbei.

We continue working to create spaces where more Roma children can grow up educated, confident, and free to make their own choices. Because quality education is the key that opens the door to a better future — and every child deserves that chance!
