Who we are

The Association of Roma Women “Voice of Romni” is a team of dedicated activists working daily to improve the living conditions of Roma women and their families. Our organization was created to promote social integration and provide equal opportunities for development. We believe that every person, regardless of their background, deserves a life of dignity, safety, and the opportunity to pursue their dreams. “Voice of Romni” ensures that the voices of Roma women are heard at local, national, and international levels, driving change in their communities and shaping the future. We operate in Ukraine during challenging wartime conditions, when support for vulnerable groups has become even more critical.

In over 2.5 years of full-scale war, our voices have been heard at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, the annual United Nations Commission in New York, the UN Forum on Minority Issues, the Women Leaders’ Summit in Warsaw, the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Berlin, high-level meetings in Brussels, the Feminist Foreign Policy Forum in The Hague, the Women’s Congress in Reykjavík, and other significant events across the globe.

What we do

With the onset of russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, we recognized the immediate need for support within our community. “Voice of Romni” expanded its activities to include humanitarian aid for Roma families affected by the war. We provide essential food packages, hygiene supplies, and work to restore damaged housing. Additionally, we offer financial assistance to those in greatest need.

An integral part of our work is educational projects for Roma children and teenagers.
We have established child-friendly spaces where children can study and prepare for national multi-subject tests (NMT). Psychologists and speech therapists collaborate with them to help navigate stressful situations and improve communication skills. In November 2024, we launched youth spaces within these centers to unite young people and provide them with opportunities for learning, developing their talents, networking, and initiating their own projects.

One of our key priorities is combating gender-based violence (GBV) and supporting Roma women who face this issue. We educate and empower Roma women activists who advocate for the rights of their communities. Their voices become a powerful tool for driving change and building a society free from discrimination and violence.

At the same time, we operate safe spaces for women, where they can access psychological and legal assistance, undergo retraining courses, and achieve economic empowerment. Our initiatives enable women to acquire new skills, start their own businesses, and attain financial independence. This not only improves the quality of life for individual families but also contributes to the overall economic development of the Roma community.

The Ukraine of the future is a society where Roma men and women hold equal standing with everyone else, with access to education, security, and economic opportunities. We envision an inclusive future where every woman can develop her potential, actively participate in her community’s growth, and become a leader capable of changing the world. Through support, education, and empowerment of rights, we are building a society that recognizes the value of every individual, regardless of their background or gender.

Our values are equality, inclusion, respect for dignity, and human rights. We firmly believe that every Roma woman deserves unconditional support, free from discrimination. Our work is grounded in the principles of solidarity, openness, and a commitment to creating a society where Roma women can realize their potential and feel valued and significant.
